An Integrated Approach for Tackling Childhood Overweight and Obesity in Queensland is the state’s first evidence-based paediatric framework for addressing the issue of overweight and obesity among children and young people.

The framework includes four resources:

1. Model of Care (MOC)

The MOC is a ‘how-to’ guide that covers prevention, early intervention, treatment and management. It also provides education and training resources and guidance on research, monitoring and evaluation.

2. Referral Pathway

The referral pathway is a quick reference guide that supports primary health care providers to monitor and assess child growth, refer patients to appropriate services, and deliver interventions. Localised versions are available through some PHN HealthPathways Programs.

3. Toolkit

The Toolkit contains resources, links and other tools for clinicians across all levels of the health care system that support the MOC.

4. Framework Overview

The Framework Overview outlines a systems-wide, integrated approach for tackling childhood obesity in Queensland. It includes fundamentals of childhood overweight and obesity, background on the development of the framework by Queensland Health’s Paediatric Obesity Working Group, and future directions.
