There are many health and lifestyle services for children and families. Speak with your doctor or health care provider to find out about other services in your local area.

Pregnancy and infants

Pregnancy, Birth and Baby (1800 882 436)

The National Pregnancy, Birth and Baby service supports parents and carers on the journey from pregnancy to preschool. Call 1800 882 436 to speak with a child health nurse for personal advice and guidance on pregnancy, birth, being a caregiver, and raising a child.

Breastfeeding helpline (1800 686 268)

The breastfeeding helpline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It is a free phone service run by the Australian Breastfeeding Association. Trained volunteer counsellors can provide information about breastfeeding and offer advice to help overcome common hurdles.

Newborn drop-in services

Parents and carers of newborns have access to drop-in centres across Queensland. They provide free information on parenting, infant development, and feeding support. Search the health services directory to find your nearest newborn drop-in service.

Children and teens

Child health clinics

Free child health clinics are available across Queensland. They provide parents and carers with information and support on parenting, nutrition, child growth and development. Search the health services directory to find your nearest child health clinic.

Circle of Security Parenting Program

The Circle of Security program supports parents and carers to understand their child’s emotional world and the importance of secure relationships. Parents and carers will learn how to read their child’s behaviour, understand how to meet their needs, and be in charge in a kind way. This builds their child’s sense of security, freedom, confidence, comfort and protection. It is designed for parents and carers of children aged from birth to five years. A referral is required – speak with your doctor or health care provider.

Parentline (1300 30 1300)

Parentline is a confidential phone and web chat support service. If you feel you need to talk to someone about challenges you’re facing as  parent or carer, including fussy eating, mental wellbeing, sleep, and positive parenting, you can contact Parentline.

Triple P – Positive Parenting Program

Triple P – Positive Parenting Program is a free program for Queensland parents and carers to learn new skills for raising happy, healthy children and teenagers. The program offers a range of services including one-on-one consultations, online courses, and group workshops – you choose the options that work for you.

All ages

13 HEALTH (13 43 25 84)

13 Health (13 43 25 84) is a free phone service providing confidential, qualified health advice from registered nurses. It is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you have questions about your child’s health, call 13 Health (13 43 25 84) and ask to speak with a Child Health Nurse.

Dietetic services (all Queensland Health hospitals)

Queensland children and families can receive dietetics services through outpatient and specialist clinics. Referrals are required – speak with your doctor or health care provider about whether your child is eligible and may benefit from dietetics services.

Your doctor

For individualised health advice for your child, speak with your family doctor or paediatrician. They can provide referrals if your child requires more specialised health care or support.

Local services

Child Health Service (Greater Brisbane area)

The Child Health Service provides a range of community health and support services for children and their families. Services are available for children aged from birth to eight years, and include information and support on parenting, nutrition, early feeding, and growth and development checks. Contact your local Child Health Service or call 1300 366 039 to find out more.

Good Start Program (South East Queensland and Cairns)

The Good Start Program works with Māori and Pacific Islander children and their families to improve health and wellbeing. The program helps families to build their knowledge, skills and confidence about healthy eating, physical activity and lifestyle practices. Visit the Good Start website to find out more.

Healthy Kids Hub (Greater Brisbane area – Beenleigh, Browns Plains, Logan Central)

The Healthy Kids Hub is a free service that works closely with children and their families to help them manage their child’s weight. The health team uses the strengths of each family to help them create a happy and healthy future. Speak with your doctor or health care provider about eligibility and referrals.
